What We Know About the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack
No fewer than 16 people perished and in excess of 40 were hurt when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police have called a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the number of fatalities remains at 16, encompassing one of the suspected gunmen. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were admitted to hospital.
The deceased are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, saying they were standing when the gunfire started. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
In a statement, a senior official declared that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the statement read.
One Child
A child who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was also killed during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain under care, with five in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
