Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Officials have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The incident led the government to halt refugee claims and halt granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
