This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers
Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive items. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the institution's aesthetic. For collectors, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop will operate from the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome packed with beautiful artwork that show Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is what a Pokémon Professor could produce once adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal might have created had the Galapagos were populated by flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate scientific study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.
Why This Promo Card Different
It is common to issue to release promos celebrating big events or brand collaborations. A lot of these collector items often feature the famous electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this latest promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. Although exact measurements were not immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with customers able to get only a single card per purchase.
Curbing Speculator Interest
According to a company statement, some of the merchandise may also be available outside the museum walls. But, broader availability will only be specific stores within the UK. Critically, collectors will not be able to acquire this promo via the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. For those feeling left out, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"Every penny from purchases from the museum store and its web shop, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the research of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the global ecological crisis," the statement notes.
