The star has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the Britain's independent live music spots.

The star was presented with the award on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the top album of the past year.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages played in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to help 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation supported locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from shows in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

He is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to good deeds.

When the band received the prize in the year 1996 for their record the album, lead singer Cocker declared that the group would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite shared her award among a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," she told outlets.

Previously, they donated their prize money to the community center that supported their band, alongside other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"The victory was ample," stated singer the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had saved several grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in the city and the other in the city were bought under the community ownership program, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
