New Year Partygoers Told to Dress Warmly with Snowfall Forecast Across the UK
Meteorologists have indicated an icy start to the new year, with snow anticipated across much of the UK. Those celebrating have been told to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Celebrations Continue Amid Warnings
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay festivities are planned to go ahead, unlike last year's cancellation. This comes despite advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be essential," said the Met Office.
Displays Under Mostly Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is expected to be perfect for fireworks shows, with dry conditions and good visibility. Temperatures are forecast to be chilly, making warm wraps essential, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Broad Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Drop Even More
As 2026 begins, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are expected to plummet as snow and gale-force winds are likely to hit the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Medical Advisories Issued
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities stated this indicated the weather could to trigger notable consequences across health and social care services. This encompasses a expected uptick in the mortality rate among the elderly or unwell or those aged 65 or over.
