A person who spiked treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.

The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities once more.

She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five children.
