The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US on five Europeans working on fighting online hate and disinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of campaigns to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
