Catherine's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
