Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
