Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
